WFM Compass Connections

A program of the Waterfront School Foundation (WSF) in partnership with Waterfront Montessori (WFM)

Program Overview

Starting a new school can feel exciting—and sometimes overwhelming. WSF Compass Connections is designed to help new families at Waterfront Montessori feel welcome, supported, and connected with the rest of the WFM community.

Through this program, each new family is paired with a current WFM parent volunteer, called a Compass Guide, who serves as a friendly guide during their first year in the community. Compass Guides help answer common questions, share personal experiences, and point families toward helpful resources and upcoming events for a smooth transition to WFM.

Our goal is simple: to ensure that every family feels at home at WFM.

Roles & Responsibilities of Compass Guides

As a Compass Guide, you’ll play an important role in welcoming new families.

  • Commitment: September – June (approx. 9 months).

  • First Contact: Reach out to your assigned family within the first week of pairing.

  • Breakfast Meetup: If possible, attend WFM Welcome breakfast to connect in person.

  • Stay in Touch: Connect by email, phone, text, or in-person—whatever works best.

  • Share Information: Pass along school event details, WSF activities, and opportunities to get involved.

  • Answer Questions: Offer your perspective as a parent. If you’re unsure, connect the family with the right school contact or reach out to program admins for support.

  • Encourage Participation: Invite your Compass Family to events like parent coffees, social events, back-to-school night, or performances.

  • Be a Friendly Face: Sometimes the most important role is simply being a familiar, approachable parent.
