ASHLEY FAISON, LCSW
Ashley is a non-profit leader and organizational strategist, creative connector and professional fundraiser. She is currently responsible for the development and growth of New Heights Youth, a sports-based youth development NPO in Harlem, NYC. She holds a Bachelors and Masters in Social Work from Florida State University.
Ashley has been a Waterfront parent since 2013 when daughter, Adeline, enrolled in Toddler 2. Ashley and John joined as Foundation members in 2015 after getting involved with the community garden initiative.
WSF Special Interests: Collaborative growth opportunities within our triangle partnership: the school, the parents and the (broader ) community.
Christa Peters, Vice President
In 2017, Christa, Darren, Bea (8), and Elise (6) traded DC for JC. New to the city and the school, they were doubly grateful for the warm welcome they received at WFM school and foundation events. Christa has a Masters in English Literature from the University of Western Ontario (Canada). Before leaving Canada to teach ESL in Seoul, she worked in corporate training and marketing. Most recently, she was a Lecturer in the Department of English at the Canadian University of Dubai. Now a stay-at-home mom, Christa is looking forward to serving on the WSF Board to continue strengthening relationships between parents, students, and staff.
Steven Weisman, Secretary
Steven joined the Waterfront School Foundation in June 2018. He has worked on many of the foundation events and initiatives, including the Fall Family Fun Day and the School Musical.
Steven is a VP at JPMorgan Chase and has three children, two of which are current students at Waterfront Montessori. His third child was a member of the WFM 2019 graduating class. He has been a member of the Waterfront community since 2010.
Fiona has been a Waterfront Montessori parent since 2004 when her older child, Sean, enrolled in WFM’s first-ever Primary class. He graduated from WFM in 2015 and now attends Brooklyn Friends School. Her younger child, Tyler, currently attends Middle School in WFM.
Fiona graduated from the University of Nottingham, England with a Bachelor of Laws (Honors) degree and was called to the Bar in England. She also qualified and worked for five years as an Advocate & Solicitor in Singapore, dealing primarily with probate and estate administration.
She has served on the WSF Board since 2013 and was part of the initial team tasked with the incorporation and formation of the Foundation. She has previously served as Treasurer.
WSF Special Interests: Community initiatives such as the Book Fair and Food Drives
Susan Schmitt, Member-at-Large
Susan joined the Waterfront School Foundation in June 2018 as Member-at-Large. She has worked on many events and initiatives such as the Fall Family Fun Day and 15 Years, 15 Hours.
Susan is a Lower Elementary teacher at WFM. She is the Mom of two WFM graduates and in her words, “I want to help the foundation and the school work together.”
